The Norwegian Forest cat is a breed of domestic cat that adapted very well to the cold, harsh climates of its native Northern Europe. Larger than most cats, this is a very sturdy breed with long legs and a bushy tail. It’s thick, long haired coat has a water resistant top layer and wooly under layer to protect it from the cold weather. Norwegian cats are accepted in any color variety except chocolate, lilac, fawn and cinnamon. This breed demands a good deal of attention since they are so full of energy and are usually kept as outdoor cats. Interestingly, while these cats are naturally quiet, they can develop a loud voice if in a home with dogs. Since 2003, it has been the fifth most popular cat in France and remains extremely popular in other parts of Europe as well, especially Norway and Sweden.
