Originating in Greece, the Aegean cats are a domestic, natural landrace breed. They’re one of the oldest domestic breeds. They tend to be found in Greece as feral cats, roaming the streets and are often considered a national treasure by the Greeks.

Aegean cats are a social breed and are known to be playful, intelligent and active. They are also very communicative. They are medium-sized and very muscular. They have short hair and their coat can be either bi-color or tri-color. One of the colors is always white and takes up a third to two thirds of their body. The other colors can be black, red, blue, and cream, with or without tabby markings. They have almond shaped eyes in varying shades of green.

These cats are known for liking water and fishing. They are also free of genetic diseases thanks to their natural development.
